MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) - A car crashed through the front windows of the Paul Spitzfaden Community Center in Mandeville on Monday morning, injuring four elderly people.
Police said at around 9 a.m., 96-year-old Rita Williams was driving when she jumped the sidewalk and crashed through the front of the building.
Four people were inside and the car hit them before coming to a stop. The most seriously injured is 83-year-old Antonio Cornacchia, of Mandeville. He is being treated at Lakeview Regional for broken bones and lacerations. Leo Wurtzel, 95, Nicholas Currault, 87, both of Mandeville; and 57-year-old Mary Graver, of Covington, who is a Council on Aging St Tammany (COAST) employee, are all being treated for minor injuries at Lakeview and St. Tammany Parish hospitals. They were expected to be released Monday.
Williams was charged via summons with negligent injury. She will also be submitted to the DMV for a driver review.
